On-Line Audition Techniques for the Working Actor

February 5 - March 11, 2024
Mondays 7pm - 9pm (online)
Cost: $350 / 2 hours / 6 weeks

Using Zoom as our camera, I will teach you how to maximize the lens, so you stand out in auditions. Working on monologues and sides, actors will learn how to find a monologue which best serves them, highlighting their best qualities. They will also learn how to quickly analyze and structure a script/sides so they understand what the scene is about and come in with a clear choices and character. In addition, we will also apply rhythm, phrasing, and gesture to polish and hone the auditions.

Scene Study

Sept. 24 - Nov. 12, 2023
Sundays 12pm -3pm
Cost: $550 / 3 hours / 8 weeks

Contemporary scenes for intermediated to advanced actors. You will learn how to analyze scenes by understanding the structure. We will work on beats, character, objectives, tactics, arc, subtext and rhythm to fully understand what the scene is about and how to play it with depth and nuance. The goal is to make you an autonomous actor who can take any script, understand its structure, break it down into playable parts and understand it as a whole.

Directing

Sundays 3pm- 6pm
Cost: $550 /3 hours / 8 weeks

Understanding the elements and art of directing and the role of the director in today's theatre. Connect with the text and articulate a clear vision, learn script analysis and beat breakdown, the foundation and language of blocking, the art of composition, and how to communicate and collaborate effectively with actors. Directors will work with actors of their own casting on a two-person scene from a short play culminating in a final presentation.

Chekhov 5 Week Intensive

TBD
Cost: $350 / 3 hours / 5 weeks

This class is structured as a rehearsal to performance. Students will collectively work on one of Chekhov's plays, intensely and deeply analyzing dramaturgy, script, character, subtext, language and movement. Students will work on various scenes from the one play each bringing their own nuance to the character, the complex language and action.

The Lost Art of Acting Craft

TBD
Cost: $350 / 3 hours / 5 weeks

Acting Craft is a lost art which actors have shared through the decades. It is the polishing cream for your technique and will elevate your work to a higher level, giving you and edge at auditions and performances. Craft exercises are learnable skills which will hone your verbal and physical work with the text. Understand how to "throw away" one line to give extra value to the next. Learn how to use rhythm in language to create meaning and maintain interest with the audience. Understand how to "frame a line" or "spread a line" to create resonance. Employ gesture and physical architecture to establish presence, power and nuance.
